Future champions? Get started on your road to wrestling glory right here, at the Goodwood Amateur Wrestling Club, Goodwood Civic Centre. Every Tuesday and Thursday night from 6pm till 8pm, young hopefuls from 5 years old and upwards will be able to learn the basics of amateur wrestling. For years now, the Goodwood school has been training little athletes from a grassroots level into fully fledged wrestling talents adept at handling themselves on the mat. From here they’ll be able to upgrade to the AWA School of Hard Knocks if they want to follow in the steps of their AWA heroes. Remember, like in any good sport, a strong foundation is essential to becoming a professional so don’t miss out on this fundamental step.

Join the AWA Training Camp!

Posted by Africa Wrestling On May - 7 - 2019

THE SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS IS NOW ACCEPTING ADMISSIONS

The AWA training centre has thrown open its doors to all over the age of 16 years old. ‘We don’t discriminate, we take anyone and everyone in,’ says Shaun Koen, founder of the Africa Wrestling Alliance. It’s true. The organization welcomes both boys and girls, men and women, any colour or religion. ‘The benefits of our style of training are numerous; you don’t need to aspire to be one of our athletes in order to train.’

With its boot-camp style of fitness, members of the AWA Training School receive excellent cardiovascular training in combination with learning the basics of grappling, which is a form of self defense. Wrestling is also a great team sport, so serves as a nurturing environment high in camaraderie and teamwork. ‘It’s like being part of a new family,’ adds Shaun. Sure, if a somewhat overactive one. In truth, despite the high-impact, no holds-barred aesthetic, the reality about wrestling training is that it’s really just good clean fun.

Something for the ladies – The AWA recently opened up an exclusive ‘Diva’ division, targeting like-minded women who would like to cultivate their skills in the ring. Again, levels of aspiration are dependent on the athlete and what goals they have in the realm of wrestling.

Toughening up – Are you an ex-rugby player, gymnast or body builder? Maybe your sporting career has been more intense? Looking to try something new? Maybe take your body to a new limit or your fitness in a new direction. Do you think you have what it takes to be a fully-fledged wrestler?

No experience needed. We can train from a grassroots level all the way to professional if you are committed to the journey.

If you would like to join the AWA School of Hard Knocks training camp, contact us at training@awfwrestle.com or 079 114 6737 (office hours) and we’ll set you down the path to wrestling glory and physical fitness.

Coca Cola Royal Rumble 2016 is here!

Posted by Africa Wrestling On November - 23 - 2016

House of Pain / Coca-Cola Royal Rumble – December 6th 2016
The final House of Pain of 2016 has arrived and with it the Coca-Cola Royal Rumble! This is the big one folks, with over 20 of the country’s finest athletes competing for bragging rights and the spoils! And that includes the All Africa Heavyweight Championship belt.

Coca-Cola Royal Rumble
22 men enter the ring, who will emerge victorious? The Freakshow was last year’s winner and managed to hold onto the title up until now. Does he have what it takes to retain the belt for another year? There are 21 challengers who think they have a shot at walking out there with the Royal Rumble belt around their waist so The Freakshow is going to have his work cut out for him, but if anyone has the grappling skills to fight off the horde it’s him.

All Africa Heavyweight Championship
Crowd favourites such as Johnny Palazzio, Mr Money and The Oz will be battling in the squared circle while Shaun Koen will be taking on the Missing Link for the heavyweight title. That’s a winning streak almost two years long but this might be the night that Shaun Koen finally wrestles the title from the Link. Nobody thus far has managed to get close to defeating The Missing Link, the most feared wrestler in South Africa. Can Shaun Koen, South Africa’s most loved wrestler topple him once and for all?

Will you be there to see who the new Royal Rumble and All Africa Heavyweight Champion is? Don’t miss out.

Tickets are available by phoning 0824560792 or at the box office on the night from 6:30pm on the night. Prices range from R50.00 unreserved seats to R80.00 for the reserved seats.
