Jan “The Giant” Nortjie VS Shaun “The Lion” Koen (Statistics)

Posted by Africa Wrestling On September - 18 - 2010

September 29th marks the date that the AWA wrestling brings to the Parow Civic Center “House of Pain” with an event dubbed: “CLASH OF THE TITANS!”

In the main event the AWA’s Shaun Koen takes on a South African MMA legend, Jan Nortje!
But who are these two warriors? Let’s find out.
Tale of the tape:
Name: Jan Nortje
Nickname: “The Giant”
Height: 2, 11m
Weight: 159kg

An accomplished fighter in every sense of the word, Nortje has competed in boxing, MMA, K-1 and kickboxing arenas across the globe.  Jan “The Giant” Nortje‘s MMA record stands at an impressive 2-6-0. And even with only 2 wins, Jan has always made sure his opponents would never forget that they tussled with “The Giant”.
His 2 victories prove however what a significant force Jan is. In 2003 he defeated Japanese pro-wrestling legend Tadao Yasuda after delivering a combination of TEN kicks to the face, resulting in a TKO!
His other victory came at the expense of former training partner and K-1 superstar “The Beast” Bob Sapp at a Strikeforce show in 2008, where Nortje TKOed Sapp in an amazing 55 seconds!
On the 28th, “The Giant” sets to return to the Parow Civic Center where he has seen success as well. In 2001 he became the South African Kickboxing Champion at that very arena.
Jan’s fighting style is not pretty. He has been known to maul his opponents into submission and on occasion, break limbs with his brutal strikes. A combatant who has made his name around the world, Nortje is looking to expand his legacy in the square-circle of the AWA.

His opponent…
Name: Shaun Koen
Nickname: “The Lion of Africa”
Height: 1, 98m
Weight: 172kg

Second generation wrestler, Shaun Koen, cut his teeth into the professional wrestling business at the young and tender age of 16 after being trained by his father, Jackie Koen. After a successful tour in Germany and Austria during the early 90’s, Shaun returned to South Africa with a wealth of experience and knowledge and became one of South Africa’s most successful and top wrestling stars. On his rise to top, he would face and defeat the local and international wrestling superstar such as Oscar Strongbow, William Regal, Ulf Hurman, Terry Middoux and The Missing Link.
In 1992, Koen defeated Zimbabwean wrestler Big Mike Zuma in Cape Town for his first All-Africa Heavyweight title. Shaun would then go on to win the championship on 3 more occasions and is still to this day the current heavyweight champion in the AWA.
Although professional wrestling has always been associated with glitz and glamour, “The Lion of Africa’s” style is not for he faint of heart.  A vicious brawler, a master technician and in his youth (believe it or not) an amazing high flyer, Koen is an accomplished grappler is possibly one of South Africa’s greatest professional wrestlers ever.

At the “The House of Pain”, these two behemoths will step into the ring and face other for the first time in history. The rules are uncertain, the victor unknown, but you can be sure it promises to be a spectacle like none other!
It will be a clash of styles, a clash of champions; it will be a CLASH OF THE TITANS!!
As always, the AWA presents a show like no other, with an entire card filled with SA’s top wrestlers competing in matches prior to the main event. This will be an evening not to be missed!!
