Conflicts escalate at the House of Pain

AWA WRESTLING, HOUSE OF PAIN OCTOBER 2011, PAROW CIVIC CENTRE
Conflicts escalate at the House of Pain
AWA WRESTLING RECENTLY RETURNED TO THE PAROW CIVIC CENTRE TO PUT ON A HOUSE OF PAIN EVENT THE LOCALS WON’T FORGET TO IN A HURRY

Twelve of the nation’s finest professional wrestling talent assembled recently at the AWA House of Pain event in Parow. This is one of the biggest events on the Africa Wrestling Alliance’s calendar – reflected by a massive attendance from their die-hard fan base. It’s easy to see the appeal when you’re sitting amongst 1800 similarly frenzied locals when the first pair of combatants entered the ring.

FIRST UP WERE Max and Mr Money in a Cruiserweight match. We call them cruiserweight but both burly fighters have actually broken out and are bordering on heavyweight division, which explained why the match evolved into a high impact slugfest with some good old technical holds and moves thrown in for flair. Mr Money ultimately took the win.

A CRAZY INTERLUDE?
What’s this? Vinnie Vegas enters the room in his street gear with a foldable chair under his arm? It seems the Cruiserweight Champion had something to say to the fans and fellow wrestlers, calling out the likes of The Oz, who in turn called out his nemesis Johnny Palazzio to the ring. Dubbed ‘The Vegas Lounge’, the tense discussion that ensued was ended after a challenge was laid down between these bitter rivals, that’s a title defense fight scheduled for the Coca Cola Royal Rumble in December. This depends on the results of the title fights scheduled to happen at the Grassy Park Civic on 11 November.

HILLBILLY AND ED Electric were up next, with the Hillbilly dominating his opponent and the venue by man-handling and eventually throwing his rival into the stands with chair-shattering consequences much to the dismay and fury of the crowd. Hillbilly may have won the fight but he’ll have made no friends at this event, except maybe for old comrade Revyv who made a cameo entrance straight thereafter, if only to announce his unreadiness to compete in an AWA fight in the near future due to an injury. Watch this space.

NEXT UP TO take the fights to the ring were Vinnie Vegas and Miss Gorgeous, two of our most exciting athletes, if for very different reasons. Vinnie managed to overcome the sheer… exuberance of Gorgeous and snatch victory thanks to a missed cross-body splash by the more voluptuous fighter. A quick roll-up manoeuvre was all Vegas needed to do to make the win his despite Gorgeous’s excellent distracting techniques.

Next up was a non-title grudge match between the infamous heavyweight champ, Johnny Palazzio versus the crowd favourite Nitro, himself a master of high impact aerial manoeuvres. Thanks to some interference from The Oz who hopped into the squared circle to cause a bit of mayhem, the bout was won by Nitro who finished a distracted Palazzio with a 450 splash.

FOUR BY FOUR fury is the name given to a four way battle between the biggest of the AWA boys. Shaun Koen, the Lion of Africa himself wowed the crowds with an athletic display of power and aggression when he took on mighty Rashiedi, Sammy Swieggers and The Oz in a one fall bout. Things got really out of hand, with the end result of Swieggers taking the win, giving little clue into what actually happened in this chaotic bout.

If you missed out on the action don’t beat yourself up over it. Join us instead at the next House of Pain event on the 8th December 2011 featuring three majoy title fights and of course the all-in Coca Cola Royal Rumble!
